Within a couple of hours’ drive from Barcelona, you can enjoy a whole different scenario; impressive skylines at the skiing resorts or hiking trails. Our journey will include medieval towns wich transports us to the Medieval Ages. The best starting point will be the castle of Cardona which is recognized as one of the most beautiful ones in the whole country!!!
Its splendor was strictly related with a salt mine. You can not miss it!
Just before crossing Spanish border La Seu d’Urgell is waiting for us. This town has a great historical and artistic importance. Its location at the main trading ways – wide Pyrenees valleys – brought this city high importance from the 9th century, when the Catalan counties were emerging in the political map of Europe.
A cherry on the cake will be a visit to a micro country called Andorra: the best skiing resort option in Iberian Peninsula. In this charming destination, granite slate houses are neighbored by contemporary art (Salvador Dali, Jaume Plensa). Surprisingly, the Principality of Andorra is also ideal place for shopping (a whole country is a duty-free area!!!).
A real gem of avant-garde architecture hidden in a cozy Andorra valley is St Mary´s sanctuary of Meritxell. A church designed by prodigious Catalan architect, Ricardo Bofill replaced an old one consumed by the fire.
Before arriving in Barcelona the soulful lightness of Montserrat massive will amaze you as we stop at the best viewpoint overlooking this „serrated mountain”.
